PSAS8111: Providing evidence based on valid and referenced academic sources is a fundamental educational principle and the cornerstone of high-quality academic work: Psychological assessments Assignment, IIE, Africa
Referencing Rubric
Providing evidence based on valid and referenced academic sources is a fundamental educational principle and the cornerstone of high-quality academic work. Hence, The IIE considers it essential to develop the referencing skills of our students in our commitment to achieving high academic standards. Part of achieving these high standards is referencing in a way that is consistent, technically correct, and congruent. This is not plagiarism, which is handled differently.
Poor quality formatting in your references will result in a penalty of a maximum of ten percent being deducted from the percentage awarded, according to the following guidelines. Please note, however, that evidence of plagiarism in the form of copied or uncited work (not referenced), absent reference lists, or exceptionally poor referencing may result in action being taken in accordance with The IIE’s Intellectual Integrity Policy (0023).
Markers are required to provide feedback to students by indicating (circling/underlining) the information that best describes the student’s work.
Minor technical referencing errors: 5% deduction from the overall percentage – the student’s work contains five or more errors listed in the minor errors column in the table below. Major technical referencing errors: 10% deduction from the overall percentage – the student’s work contains five or more errors listed in the major errors column in the table below.

You are required to write a 2 to 3-page academic essay in which you critically discuss the socio-cultural and socio-economic factors that affect assessments in the South African context.
- You will need to use no less than five reliable academic resources in this assignment. (E.g., books, journal articles, etc.)
- You will need to use the APA 7th edition referencing style in-text, as well as in your reference list. Other referencing styles will result in minus 10% of your overall mark. Check the IIE Library space for the APA 7th guide.
Question 2
Search one psychological scale published in a journal article, in which the psychometric properties are reported. Focus only on the reliability and validity of the data that are reported.
2.1 Summarise your chosen article in no more than one page. (Use layout requirements from Question 1). The scale must be measuring a psychological construct.
2.2 Identify the type of reliability that was established and the type of validity and comment on what these levels mean and whether you think that the levels are acceptable. If not, how they can be improved? What are acceptable levels?
- Attach the front page (ONLY) of your chosen article as an appendix. (Subtraction of 10 marks from the overall mark on this question, if the front cover of the chosen article is not attached).
- See the rubric for what you will be awarded marks for.
